Join Jane C. Hu and the City Cast Seattle team every weekday morning as we explore the most interesting stories about our city. It’s an informative, daily podcast for all Seattleites— locals and transplants alike. We’ll keep you company while you’re walking the dog around Green Lake, riding the bus through SLU, or stuck in traffic on the West Seattle Bridge. City Cast is like eavesdropping on an illuminating conversation at your neighborhood coffee shop. But there’s no Seattle Freeze here; everyone’s welcome to join in.

A Seattle hero:
Fawzi Benhariz, aka Benny. He passed last year after a battle with cancer, but anyone who's ever been through Fremont likely saw him or the impressive rock cairns he made; he was a fixture of the neighborhood, living there unhoused for decades, and he was always chatting people up. (Benny was my first friend when I moved to Seattle!) To me, his openness and his drive to create represent the best things about this city.
A tourist trap that's actually great:
The Ballard Locks, especially around salmon spawning season!
A Seattle hidden gem:
Seattle ReCreative, which sells used craft items for any project you can imagine.
Executive Producer
Seattle hidden gem:
The Fremont Dock. It's the perfect place to launch your paddle board and swim right in the middle of the city.
Something we do best:
Coffee and rain gear.
A tourist trap that's actually great:
Pike Place Market. It gets crowded but the food, the flowers, and the views are all worth it.
Audience Development Manager
Seattle hidden gem:
The main bar at the Triple Door - free jazz and you don't need a ticket to enter?! Sign me up.
Something we do best:
Teriyaki chicken! The modern version was actually invented here.
Let's eat here:
S/T Hooligans, and order literally anything. I mean it. Literally anything.

Best pop culture depiction of Seattle:
The film Singles has the best old-school Seattle cameos, but 2022 film Know Your Place captures the city today beautifully.
A Seattle icon:
Madame Damnable. She was one of the founders of Pioneer Square as a 'vice' district (a.k.a powered by sex work), which included the area being home to Seattle's first gay bars. She also was supposedly known throughout the West Coast for her 'sailor’s tongue and hot temper.' A fascinating entry-point for Seattle's settler history.
Let's eat here:
Cafe Suliman. If money were no object I'd order everything on the menu, but if I had to choose one thing, their olive oil cake is unreal.
Creative Producer
A Seattle hidden gem:
Scarecrow Video! It's the largest rentable film archive in the country.
Something we do best:
Looking really beautiful after it rains. So green!
Let's eat here:
I'd take you to Sunny Hill, and I'd order the burger. My daughter got it the other day and I wanted to eat the entire thing.
